Our Black Barn Program is about being creative, learning, and challenging our team to brew the highest quality beer. Our beer goes through extensive lab testing and our robust sensory program in order to comply with our belief in quality over quantity. Black Barn is brewed on our 15BBL brewhouse and is available in bottles and on draft exclusively in our tap room.
Black Barn No. 3 is an India Pale Ale brewed with Amarillo, Citra, and Simcoe hops. We started this brew with the mission of utilizing new hop forms and new hopping techniques. As the beer developed we weren’t as happy with the final product as we had hoped. We went back to the drawing board and brewed the beer again using traditional hopping methods and hop pellets, and the beer came out exactly as we wanted. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
This beer is interesting in that it is a classic Maine Beer Company IPA, but it is brewed with over 50% of malt from Blue Ox Malt House in nearby Lisbon Falls, Maine. Included in this grain bill is their flavorful Dark Munich malt, which is a newer specialty malt in their lineup. Additionally, this beer has the highest quantity of hops per volume of beer in the dry hop of any standard IPA we have ever brewed, clocking in at 3.3 lbs of hop pellets per barrel.
